Jake O'Brien breaks social media silence after confirmed Everton exit news

Everton defender Jake O’Brien has taken to social media for the first time since Sean Dyche’s shock dismissal.

The 23-year-old played just his third 90 minutes for Everton since joining from Lyon for £16.4million in the summer in their 2-0 FA Cup win over League Two Peterborough, the first game of the post-Sean Dyche era.

Leighton Baines and captain Seamus Coleman took charge of the FA Cup third round after Dyche was sacked just hours before kick-off.

Beto opened the scoring just before the break, beating the offside trap, rounding the goalkeeper, and slotting home from a tight angle.

The centre-back was Everton’s most expensive transfer of the 2024 summer transfer window, but was seemingly unwanted by his ex-manager, starting just three of his five games across all competitions, and providing zero goal contributions in his 304 minutes of action.

O’Brien impressed in the game against Peterborough, ending the game having completed 76 passes, the most from any player in the game, made nine recoveries, and three clearances.

Delighted to have been given a rare opportunity, O’Brien took to Instagram after the game to say: “Great to be back out there this evening.”

Dyche left the club just one point above the relegation zone, sitting in 16th with three wins, eight draws, eight defeats, and 17 points from their 20 Premier League games.

Everton will host Aston Villa on Wednesday (January 15) in their first Premier League game since the Englishman’s sacking.
