Birmingham City left-back Alex Cochrane could miss their Christmas schedule after picking up a foot injury, as per a report by BirminghamLive.

Birmingham City will have to make do without the defender over the coming weeks as they look to keep their momentum going in League One. They are currently sat in 3rd place in the table behind Wycombe Wanderers and Wrexham as they eye an immediate promotion back to the Championship.

Cochrane, 24, has been a hit since joining the Blues in the summer from Hearts. He has made 23 appearances in all competitions so far this season, 17 of which have come in the league.

The defender picked up a blow against Barnsley last weekend though and in this latest update regarding his condition, his boss Chris Davies has said, as per a report by BirminghamLive: “He’s got a nasty gash on his foot and he had to go to hospital and get that dealt with. He’s not going to be too long, we hope, but we’ll have to see how it settles down.”

Birmingham City landed Cochrane in the last window to add more competition and depth to their defensive department.

The ex-England youth international penned a four-year deal running until 2028.

He left Hearts to join the Blues and has adapted well to life in the Football League.

Cochrane rose up through the academy ranks at Brighton and Hove Albion and played for them at various different youth levels.

He played twice for the Seagulls’ first-team as a youngster before he was loaned out from the AMEX Stadium to Union SG and Hearts to get some experience under his belt.

The latter then snapped him up permanently and he was impressive during his time in Edinburgh before Birmingham City lured him back down the border.

What now?

Cochrane’s absence is a setback for the Blues but they won’t want to take any risks with him.

They are back in action this weekend with a home clash against Bristol Rovers as they look to keep their momentum going.

Birmingham City won 2-1 away at Exeter City in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday night but made changes for that one. Luke Harris and Keshi Anderson got their goals against the Grecians.

The Midlands outfit have games in hand on the likes of Wycombe Wanderers and Wrexham around them and will want to take advantage.
