Bristol Rovers have rejected a bid from Huddersfield Town for midfielder Antony Evans, as per Bristol Live.

Bristol Rovers and Huddersfield Town will both be playing League One football next season.

The Gas finished 15th in the third tier last season. Matt Taylor took charge of the club in December and is now in his first summer at the helm of the club.

The Terriers are now under Michael Duff’s supervision following their relegation from the Championship last season.

Evans, 25, played 43 League One games for Bristol Rovers last season. He scored six and assisted another six from midfield and was one of Bristol Rovers’ best players.

He joined the club in 2021 and in his first season with them registered 22 goal contributions in 35 League Two games helping the club earn promotion to League One.

Now, Huddersfield Townhave set their sights on him. The Terriers submitted an opening bid, but that has been rejected.

Who is this?

Fighting a losing battle

Evans is in the final year of his current contract at the club and it appears despite attempts from the club to renew his deal, he will be letting it run down and won’t sign an extension.

That means this summer is the last chance Bristol Rovers will have to bring in a decent transfer fee for their player of the year last season.

It will be interesting to see how much they will hold out for and whether they will keep him around past this transfer window and risk losing him at a cut price or on a free later down the line.

Hitting the ground running

The Terriers have already made some positive moves this summer and it seems they are taking this season very seriously.

Duff’s side will want to get promoted back to the Championship at the first time of asking and it’s crucial they have a good summer window to lay the foundations for them to build on.

Bristol Rovers will be wanting to climb into the top half of the division as a minimum. However, if they do lose Evans they will be weaker than they were last season and he will need replacing.

It will be interesting to see what the rest of this summer holds for the 25-year-old and whether he gets his move away now or later down the line.
