Ebbsfleet United have signed Todd Kane following his exit from Stockport County, as announced by their official club website.

Stockport County cut ties with defender at the end of last season following their promotion to League One. They won the League Two title and went up along with Wrexham, Mansfield Town and Crawley Town.

Kane, 31, officially saw his contract at Edgeley Park expire in late June and subsequently became a free agent. He has since been weighing up his next move in the game.

In this latest update regarding his situation, Ebbsfleet United have confirmed on their website that they have snapped him up. They play their football in the National League and stayed up in the last campaign after finishing in 19th position.

The Fleet are bottom of the table right now though after only one win from their first 12 games so will hope their new signing can help them climb up the league.

New home for departed Stockport County man

Stockport County landed Kane back in March on a short-term basis to help them get over the line.

He went on to play three league matches for the Hatters under Dave Challinor before heading out the exit door.

The ex-England youth international rose up through the academy ranks at Chelsea and went on to play for them at various different youth levels as a youngster.

Kane never played a senior game for the Blues but picked up bags of experience out on loan at Preston North End, Blackburn Rovers, Bristol City, Nottingham Forest, NEC Nijmegen, FC Groningen, Oxford United and Hull City.

He left Stamford Bridge permanently in 2019 and had stints at QPR, Coventry City and Charlton Athletic.

The Cambridgeshire-born man went over to Gibraltar last year to play for Manchester 62 before moving back to England with Stockport County.

Kane is now embarking on a new challenge in the fifth tier with Ebbsfleet United.

What next?

He will be eager to get as many minutes as possible with his new team.

The full-back left behind a Stockport County team who have adapted well to life in their new division.

The Hatters also parted ways with Ryan Croasdale, Myles Hippolyte, Jordan Smith, Bobby Jones, Taylor McMahon and Christian Mulindwa.
