Blackburn Rovers loanee Dilan Markanday is a winter loan target for League One side Chesterfield, according to Pete O’Rourke.
Blackburn Rovers sent winger Dilan Markanday to Chesterfield in the summer, giving him a shot at game time away from Ewood Park for the 2024/25 campaign.
The former Spurs starlet has starred, scoring six goals and providing three assists for the side currently 10th in the fourth tier.
Now, it is claimed he’s wanted at a higher level.
Leyton Orient are looking to bring in Blackburn Rovers ace Markanday. According to Pete O’Rourke, Orient want to bring him in on loan until the end of the season.
Markanday is yet to really nail down a home since leaving Tottenham Hotspur back in January 2022. So far this season with Chesterfield is the best of his career with the winger benefitting from the consistent game time with the Spireites.
Ease the pressure on Kelman
Leyton Orient have not been the most free-scoring team throughout this season, scoring just 32 goals all campaign. However, over half of those goals have come since December 1st in their impressive turn of form.
Charlie Kelman has stepped up for the club, scoring seven goals in 18 starts.
Orient do not have many consistent scorers in their side so adding one or two, perhaps such as Blackburn Rovers ace Markanday, could be what propels them into the play-offs.
That’s far easier said than done though. January is a notoriously tough window to recruit in and with goalscorers always in demand, Orient will face a battle to get even just one through the door this winter.
Can they keep this form up?
Leyton Orient are absolutely flying right now in League One. They are the division’s form teams having won nine of their last 10 games in all competitions, propelling them into the hunt for the play-offs.
After a decent first season back in the third tier, finishing 11th, they are now looking to push on under Wellens. With the right additions, they could become real candidates for the top six.
After two cup games, they return to League One action on 18th January away to struggling Peterborough United, who are winless in their last five league games.
They then host fellow in-form side Reading in a huge game in the race for the play-off places.
