Wigan Athletic and Peterborough United meet in League One on Tuesday night as both sides look to find some form.

Wigan Athletic have endured a tough start to the 2024/25 campaign, perhaps calming summer hopes of a push towards the top end of the League One table.

However, things have taken a more positive turn in recent weeks. The Latics are unbeaten in four, though the last three of those have ended level when Shaun Maloney will have been hoping to get some victories on the board.

Last time out, Maloney’s side played out a goalless draw against Gary Caldwell’s Exeter City. Five goals in eight games hasn’t made for the most exciting start to what looked like a promising season.

As for Peterborough United, they’ll be determined to bounce back after relinquishing a 2-0 lead to lose to Birmingham City at the weekend.

The Posh raced into a surprise lead but fell apart and returned to Cambridgeshire with nothing to show for their efforts. It leaves them 12th in the division as they strive to find some consistency.

As has become somewhat routine, Darren Ferguson is leading a much-changed group after a busy summer. The signs of another play-off push are there, but there’s no doubt that his squad is a work in progress.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

James Ray

“The lack of firepower shown by Wigan Athletic is a bit of a concern at this early stage in the season. And, against a Peterborough United side still brimming with attacking talent, I think the hosts could be made to pay.

“Posh are struggling for consistency though and their defending has looked too frail. It feels like Ferguson is still waiting for a chance to nail down his strongest XI, so perhaps a run of form will have to wait.

“That said, the visitors will be determined to respond and given the edge I give them in the attacking department, I think it could be a successful visit to the north west.

“I’ll say this ends 2-1 to Posh.”

Prediction: Wigan Athletic 1-2 Peterborough United

Who is the manager of Blackpool?

Harry Mail

“The fact Wigan Athletic have drawn their last three games in a row suggests that although they are sound defensively, they need to start being more ruthless in front of goal.

“They are lacking that cutting edge in front of goal and have to start scoring more if they are to start getting some wins.

Peterborough United are 12th in the table and will fancy their chances of beating the Latics if they can get themselves on the scoresheet.

“Promotion is the aim for the Posh and although they will have wanted to have a few more points on the board at this stage, I don’t think they’ll be too disappointed with how things have started for them as it is still early days.”

Prediction: Wigan Athletic 0-1 Peterborough United
