Birmingham City boss Chris Davies has said Lee Buchanan will have a ‘scan’ over the next few days.

Birmingham City were forced to substitute the defender just before the hour mark during their 0-0 draw with Blackpool on Sunday afternoon.

Buchanan, 23, suffered an injury to his knee and he will now need to be checked on to determine how long he could potentially be out of action for.

In this latest update regarding his condition, Davies has said, as per a report by BirminghamLive: “There’s no definitive news but it didn’t look good. I’ve seen a picture of it and it doesn’t look good. He was in a lot of pain. It’s a real shame for someone who has worked so hard to get back to fitness, to have another big setback like that is really disappointing. We will have to see how he goes and obviously he will have a scan in the next few days.”

Birmingham City injury latest

Birmingham City will be praying that Buchahan isn’t sidelined for too long.

He has had his injury issues so far this season and it would be a real shame if he was ruled out on a long-term basis again.

Buchanan made the move to the Midlands in July 2023 and penned a long-term five-year contract running until June 2028. He made 35 appearances in all competitions in the last campaign, 32 of which came in the league, as they were relegated from the Championship.

The defender rose up through the academy ranks at Derby County and was a regular for the Rams at various different youth levels before breaking into their first-team.

Buchanan went on to play 75 matches as a youngster at Pride Park before he was lured away by Werder Bremen.

The ex-England youth international spent 12 months in Germany and played 24 matches during his time abroad, 21 of which were in the Bundesliga.

Birmingham City then lured him back home to England and it turned out to be a disappointing first year for him with the Blues as they dropped down in League One. They finished in the bottom three along with Huddersfield Town and Rotherham United.

What now?

The Blues don’t know at this stage the true extent of Buchanan’s injury.

They are back in action on New Year’s Day with an away trip to Edgeley Park to face Stockport County.
