Derby County striker James Collins is drawing interest with Rotherham United and Leyton Orient among those keen, as per reporter Pete O’Rourke.

Derby County are focusing on bringing new players into the ranks over the January transfer window but there’s also scope for some to move on from DCFC.

A new striker is firmly on the radar one again and it seems the Rams might finally get their man. Reports have said Norwegian talisman Lars-Jorgen Salvesen is closing on a move to Paul Warne’s side.

That could open the door for a striker or two to move on from Pride Park, and it’s now claimed that one man attracting interest in veteran talisman James Collins.

Writing on X, reporter Pete O’Rourke has said that Derby County striker Collins is wanted in League One with Rotherham United and Leyton Orient keen.  There are other admirers with a number of clubs keen, but they are the only two named at this stage.

O’Rourke adds that DCFC may well be ready to let Collins move on in 2025 as he closes on the end of his contract.

The 34-year-old saw his deal extended in the summer after his role in the Rams’ promotion from League One but after limited starts this season, Collins may head elsewhere.

Who is the manager of Blackpool?

A valuable servant

Collins joined Derby County in the summer of 2022 off the back of a fairly unproductive spell with Cardiff City. However, he has been a valuable player for the Rams, proving a solid option up top, especially in League One.

The former Luton Town and Shrewsbury Town talisman has managed 31 goals and five assists in 117 outings for the Pride Park outfit.

Collins scored an impressive 19 goals in 46 games across all competitions, playing an important role in their promotion. However, after 19 outings with no goals this season, he’s struggled to break into the starting XI.

Who else could leave?

There is more of a focus on who could come in at Pride Park this month, but new signings could definitely mean departures too.

Alongside Collins, the likes of Joe Ward may well find more opportunities elsewhere. Derby County academy graduate Dajaune Brown is someone many feel could benefit from another successful loan after his big stint with Gateshead last season.

Darren Robinson is in a similar boat with a loan perhaps aiding his development, but Warne will be wary of leaving himself short in a crucial window.
