Striker and more: 3 stars out of contract in 2025 Charlton Athletic should target in January

Charlton Athletic are back in action after the international break with a home clash against Stockport County.
Charlton Athletic beat Birmingham City 1-0 at The Valley last time out in an impressive result. They are sat in 8th place and are outside the League One play-offs on goal difference.
Nathan Jones’ side have won five of their first 10 fixtures as they eye promotion to the Championship.
The Addicks have the chance to bolster their ranks in the January transfer window ahead of the second-half of this season. With that in mind, here is a look at three players out of contract in 2025 who they should target…
Harvey Vale
The youngster could do with leaving Chelsea for more first-team opportunities elsewhere and would be a useful long-term addition for Charlton Athletic. He has been on the books at Stamford Bridge since moving from Fulham in 2016.
Vale, 21, has been loaned out to Hull City and Bristol Rovers to get some experience under his belt. He spent last term with the latter and scored three goals in 47 games in all competitions.
Ryan Ledson
Preston North End risk losing him for free in June next year if they don’t cash in on him this winter. He could be a shrewd pick-up for a team in the third tier and would be ideal for the Addicks.
The former Everton and Oxford United man would give Jones more competition and depth in the middle of the park. He has been with the Lilywhites since joining them in 2018 and has made 184 appearances altogether, chipping in with six goals.
Kion Etete
He penned a three-year contract when he was snapped up by Cardiff City back in 2022. The striker’s long-term situation in Wales is up in the air at the moment though and he would boost Charlton Athletic’s attacking options.
Etete has had permanent spells in the past at both Notts County and Tottenham Hotspur, as well as loan stints at Northampton Town and Cheltenham Town to boost his development. He found the net on five occasions last season for the Bluebirds.
