Notts County have had a good start to the 2024/25 campaign with the Magpies right in the League Two promotion hunt.

Notts County had a huge squad overhaul over the summer with 17 players departing, including talisman Macaulay Langstaff.

Aaron Nemane, John Bostock and Aden Baldwin were also let go as the club looked to change their squad in a bid to secure promotion.

As things stand it looks like it is paying dividends as Stuart Maynard’s side sit 3rd in League Two. However, 2025 could bring another busy year with the squad subject to more change when more players come to the end of their contracts.

With that said, we take a look at three Notts County players who could leave when their deals expire in 2025…

Cedwyn Scott

Forward Cedwyn Scott has hardly featured for Notts County since their promotion to League Two in 2023. The 25-year-old signed from Gateshead were he had scored 24 goals in 42 games, alongside Langstaff.

Scott scored 15 goals as the Magpies were promoted but only made nine appearances in the whole of last season, failing to score once.

This season he has already featured seven times but after failing to score again, his time in Nottingham may be coming to an end.

Sam Slocombe

36-year-old Slocombe has been with Notts County since 2019 and was a regular during their time in the National League. However, after helping the club to promotion back to the Football League, he only featured 14 times last season, losing his number one spot.

Over the summer, County signed ‘keeper Alex Bass from Sunderland, who has had an excellent start in goal for the Magpies. Bass’ success could spell the end for Slocombe.

David McGoldrick

Upon their promotion back to League Two, McGoldrick signed for his hometown club. He had just scored 22 goals in League One and was the standout signing of the division.

He found success in his first season with Notts County too scoring 14 goals in 37 games last season. He has continued to find joy up top this year too, but looking to the long term, you can’t help but feel McGoldrick is in the twilight of his playing career.

He turns 37 next month and with Alassana Jatta on the up, County may have their new talisman.

The veteran will be desperate to secure promotion to League One with his club before he leaves.
