'How good': Alisson Becker gives honest verdict on what he saw from Caoimhin Kelleher while he was out injured

Liverpool’s defence have been in safe hands during the season so far.
Despite conceding five goals over the past two games, the Reds are still the Premier League’s hardest team to score against in 2024/25.
Part of that has been down to the form of both Alisson Becker and Caoimhin Kelleher.
Alisson was excellent in the early part of the campaign, underlining his status as potentially the best goalkeeper on the planet.
But after the Brazilian was injured, Kelleher showed that there are two outstanding goalies within the Liverpool squad.
Now back fit again after more than two months out, Alisson has been looking back on Kelleher’s terrific form for Liverpool.
Alisson Becker gives verdict on Caoimhin Kelleher form
It was pleasing that Kelleher was back in goal for Liverpool during Wednesday’s Carabao Cup win over Southampton.
Prior to that outing, the previous action from the Irishman had been to let Bruno Guimaraes’ free-kick sail over his head and allow a damaging late Newcastle equaliser in the Premier League.
After such a good run of form, that was a cruel end to Kelleher’s time in the team. Thankfully, he has now been able to put it behind him and will take in a third Carabao Cup semi with the Reds.
And commenting on his goalkeeping colleague in an interview with liverpoolfc.com, Alisson has hailed what Kelleher showed while stepping in to the starting XI.

“I stayed away for eight, nine weeks – six, seven games in the Premier League,” he says.
“Caoimhin came in and did really well for the team, helping a lot with the games, with saves, with everything, showing how good he is and showing how important it is to have players with quality in the squad, not only the first XI who are starting the game, but everybody.”
Kelleher nearing Liverpool exit
Liverpool fans will be hoping that they will not be needing Kelleher again for an extended period this season.
That is not to say the 26-year-old would not come in and do a brilliant job – he surely would – but Alisson is still so important.
Nevertheless, supporters will still be rueing the fact that Kelleher looks likely to leave Liverpool at the end of the season.
Giorgi Mamardashvili is coming in to compete with Alisson, but the Georgian really does have big gloves to fill.
In the meantime, hope is still alive that Kelleher can win a third Carabao Cup with the Reds. He may more than likely be on the way out, but the Ireland international can still have a big say in making it a glorious season for Liverpool.
