Liverpool insiders have been very clear when asked what's about to happen with Rayan Cherki - journalist

The January transfer window is on the verge of opening and giving Liverpool another chance to bolster their first-team squad.
More activity had been expected from the Reds during the summer market, and the New Year now provides a last opportunity to add some more quality before the end of the season.
Given the way Liverpool have been going under Arne Slot in 2024/25, some would perhaps argue that the Reds do not need anything at all.
However, signing a new player, top player to the Liverpool squad could be the difference in them pushing on in the second-half of the season or falling away.
With that in mind, here have been fresh new links to Lyon playmaker Rayan Cherki.
Cherki is available at the right price, and given the strength of reports that a move to Anfield could be imminent, journalist David Lynch has been asking around for further information.
Liverpool insiders dismiss move for Rayan Cherki
Reports from France last week suggested that Liverpool have been speaking to Cherki quietly and have positioned themselves as favourites to sign the 21-year-old in January.
However, speaking to Anfield Agenda, Lynch has insisted that while Liverpool do retain interest in the Lyon man, it is currently very unlikely to lead to a move happening.
“My understanding, I would never call this one nonsense because definitely Liverpool like the player, they’re keeping tabs on him,” he says.
“There’s a lot to like about his profile that they think would fit in with Liverpool’s style. So, definitely a player that has been watched and is liked.”

“But in terms of that turning into a transfer, I’m extremely sceptical.
“I spoke to someone a couple of days ago about this within Liverpool and they kind of suggested no chance for January. Beyond that, you’d have to kind of see what happens if spots open up in attacking midfield or in attack but right now there’s no need for a player in that kind of profile.”
“They’re not going to stockpile players, they don’t want seven front-line attackers,” Lynch adds.
“He’s a player that Liverpool like but in terms of that turning into anything, I think a lot of that is agent talk at the moment. Liverpool’s interest is real but it’s so far from that becoming anything at the moment.”
Fabrizio Romano weighs in on Cherki to Liverpool
Lynch has not been the only journalist commenting on the rumours of Cherki joining Liverpool this weekend.
On Sunday, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano took to his YouTube channel to give his take on the links.
“On Liverpool, are there concrete negotiations as of today? It’s not something that advanced,” says Romano.
“Interest, yes, Liverpool know the player very well, they are monitoring the player in the sense that they are sending their scouts to see the progress of Cherki, but Liverpool want to see consistency. That’s why they are constantly monitoring Cherki.”
It certainly sounds like there is something potentially there with this one.
However, given the words of both of these journalists, we’d be more expecting something to happen over the summer if it happens at all.
