'Many rumours': Journalist shares what's going on with Luis Diaz and Arne Slot after claims forward could leave

Liverpool currently have a lot on their plate when it comes to renewing contracts.
It would perhaps not be an exaggeration to say that the eyes of the footballing world are on the Reds as they wait to see what happens with Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
But that star trio are not the only members of the Liverpool squad who could do with signing fresh terms.
There have been reports that Luis Diaz has been in talks over a new deal, but the Colombian is still yet to commit his future to the Reds.
Diaz has been in excellent form this season, hitting two more goals against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
His sparkling displays have led to new suggestions that Barcelona are plotting a move for Diaz. All of this makes it feel like a big few months for Liverpool’s No.7. Thankfully, journalist Florian Plettenberg has been on hand to report the lay of the land.
Luis Diaz not planning Liverpool exit
This has been a really good season for Diaz so far. Having said that, the 27-year-old had not scored a Premier League goal for over three months prior to Sunday’s game.
Nevertheless, Diaz had still been playing well without scoring and has been integral to Arne Slot during his time at the club so far.
And reporting on X on Monday, Plettenberg says that Diaz has a good relationship with the Liverpool head coach, which is one of the reasons he is currently not planning a move away from Anfield.
“Despite many rumours, Luis Diaz is currently not planning a move away from Liverpool FC,” says the reporter.
“The 27 y/o scored twice against Tottenham yesterday, feels very comfortable at the club, and there are no ongoing talks with other teams at the moment.
“The winger, who is under contract until 2027, also has a very good relationship with Arne Slot.”
Will Luis Diaz leave Liverpool?
Clearly, Liverpool have at least three contract renewals which are all more pressing than Diaz’s.
However, it is still important that the Reds decided what the future holds for the Colombia international over the coming months.
Competition | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Premier League | 16 | 7 | 2 |
Champions League | 6 | 3 | 0 |
Carabao Cup | 1 | 1 | 0 |
Total | 23 | 11 | 2 |
If they feel they would like to move on and bring in someone like Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, for example, then next summer would be the time to sell him.
Should Liverpool be happy with Diaz and want him to stay into his thirties beyond 2027, then they shouldn’t hesitate to get him tied down.
In our opinion, Diaz’s form does deserve a pay bump and an extension. But if terms cannot be agreed then a summer sale would be best for everyone.
