The future of Darwin Nunez at Liverpool remains up in the air despite the striker’s recent heroic display against Brentford.

The Uruguayan came off the bench against the Bees last weekend to score an injury-time brace, which resulted in a 2-0 win for Liverpool over Brentford, increasing the Reds’ lead at the top of the Premier League by six points.

Nunez has been linked to Saudi Arabia during the current transfer window but Arne Slot is very unlikely to allow the player to go given Diogo Jota’s injury struggles.

The Athletic's James Pearce addressed this speculation on Tuesday, reporting that Liverpool have not received any Nunez bids and that the Premier League leaders are not looking to off-load the forward in January.

The summer may be a different situation and therefore, Liverpool should be all over the situation of one of the Premier League’s top performers this season.

Matheus Cunha should be on Liverpool’s radar in 2025

Having joined Wolves during the summer of 2023, it looked like Matheus Cunha would be extending his stay at Molineux as the Premier League club had a verbal agreement with the player over a new contract.

According to Fabrizio Romano, something has changed with the Brazilian’s situation, which the transfer expert describes for GIVEMESPORT.

"It's a strange situation, because they had a verbal agreement in place with the player, then they were waiting to exchange all the documents, prepare the contracts and sign the new deal,” Romano said.

“Then something changed. There was still no agreement on some details of this new contract when they started exchanging all (of) the documents, so some conditions changed.

"Also, the words from Vitor Pereira after the Stamford Bridge game (against Chelsea) were quite strong, on the body language of the player. So, the situation is not the same as two or three weeks ago between Matheus Cunha and Wolves. I think it's one to watch for the final days."

Rousing the Kop understands that Liverpool are aware of Cunha’s situation but the Reds’ interest is not strong as a deal for the forward could be expensive.

Should the Merseyside club part ways with Nunez, the Wolves star is a player Liverpool should make a move for as the forward would bring a lot to Slot’s team.

Matheus Cunha offers Liverpool more than Darwin Nunez

Although Nunez is a fan favourite amongst Liverpool fans, the Uruguayan’s flaws have started to frustrate supporters this season.

The 25-year-old has often displayed a lack of composure in front of goal, poor decision-making, and tends to run offside.

In contrast, Cunha has been flying with Wolves this season, producing 10 goals and four assists across 21 Premier League matches for an inferior team.

The Brazilian’s numbers show that he is very creative in the top half of the pitch but his style of play will also suit Slot.

Cunha floats around the final third for Wolves and is often seen dropping into deeper areas in search of the ball. Slot has Luis Diaz perform this role in his team and with added goalscoring power, Cunha could be perfect for Liverpool.

Liverpool showed an interest in Cunha in the past, but now may be the right time to reignite that as it looks more likely that the 25-year-old will be on the move in 2025.
