Mohamed Salah has been the talk of the town due to his exploits on and off the pitch for Liverpool this season.

The Egyptian maestro has led from the front under Arne Slot and is playing arguably the best football of his career, which is quite the feat at the age of 32 considering how consistent he’s been since moving to Anfield.

Off the pitch, speculation surrounding Salah’s future has dominated the back pages, although he hasn’t let it affect his performances and has let his game do the talking.

As he continues to rip it up for Liverpool, Jamie Carragher dug up a stat involving the Egyptian, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to prove just how good he’s been for the Reds this season.

Over the past decade or so, Messi and Ronaldo have set the standard in terms of attackers and are widely regarded as the two best players of the current generation.

They locked horns several times in La Liga during their respective stints with Barcelona and Real Madrid and also went head-to-head for the Ballon d’Or several times over the years.

Messi and Ronaldo’s numbers will obviously take some beating, but Sky Sports and their team put together a graphic that compared how many goals the legendary forwards scored in their best-ever seasons at the halfway mark.

Ronaldo topped the list with 37 goal contributions to his name during the 2014-15 campaign, while Messi was a close second with 35 in 2010-11.

Salah, meanwhile, was third on the list with 30 goal contributions already, which shows just how good the Egyptian has been so far.

And Carragher was in awe as he went on a passionate rant on Liverpool’s main man.

"I think we're seeing an all-time season,” said Carragher on Sky Sports.

“What's the best season Ronaldo and Messi have had halfway through the season? We know their numbers have been so great over the years. But he's basically only behind those two. That's pretty unbelievable.

“When we think of the consistency of Ronaldo and Messi over a ten-year period – the fact that Ronaldo has only beaten the numbers Mo Salah has now once and Messi only twice – I couldn't believe it when I heard the stat."

Salah’s stats this season

Julen Lopetegui hailed Salah as one of the best players in the world after the Egyptian starred in Liverpool’s 5-0 demolition of West Ham United earlier this week.

He looks virtually unstoppable at the moment and is leaving no stone unturned in his attempts to help Liverpool win the Premier League title once again.

Salah remains locked in talks with the club over a new contract and it remains to be seen if the two parties come to a mutual agreement in the coming weeks.
