Report: Liverpool have run into a problem with Mo Salah after 'behind the scenes' talks with his agent

Everything Mohamed Salah has touched has turned to goals this season as he continues to lead from the front under Arne Slot.
The Egyptian is arguably playing the best football of his Anfield career and the timing bodes so well for him as he remains locked in contract talks with the club.
Salah’s current deal expires at the end of the season and the Reds are in talks to tie him down to a new contract.
However, if reports are to be believed, Liverpool have at least two stumbling blocks to clear if they are to agree a deal with the Egyptian.
The two problems Liverpool face with Mohamed Salah
Liverpool have made an opening offer to renew Salah’s contract and have also made proposals to Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
However, it’s been over two weeks since the Reds’ offer and the two parties have been unable to agree terms, which is a sign that there has been a bit of an impasse.
Mirror report that the Reds remain in ‘quiet’ talks with Ramy Abbas behind the scenes but are faced with two problems.
Liverpool and Salah have thus far been unable to reach a middle ground on wage demands and contract length, with the Reds wanting to heavily incentivise the Egyptian’s contract in case he gets injured or suffers a loss in form.
Salah, for his part, wants his status as the Premier League’s best player currently to be acknowledged, making it a tricky situation for the two parties.
Salah’s stats this season
Salah has been in sensational form this season and recently scored a brace in Liverpool’s 6-3 demolition of Tottenham Hotspur away from home.
Mohamed Salah | Apps | Goals | Assists | Mins played |
Premier League | 16 | 15 | 11 | 1.407′ |
UEFA Champions League | 6 | 2 | 4 | 513′ |
EFL Cup | 2 | 1 | – | 50′ |
He has started every Premier League and UEFA Champions League game under Arne Slot and his underlying numbers show that he’s irreplaceable to Liverpool, at least for the time being.
There is a willingness from both parties to continue working together, so the Anfield faithful will hope for the saga to conclude on a positive note in the coming weeks.
