Liverpool faced Tottenham in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night as they aimed for yet another Wembley final.

The Reds are the current holders of the competition having beaten Chelsea last February.

If they’re going to have the chance to get the better of either Arsenal or Newcastle this time around they’ll have to get past Spurs over two legs.

Very aware of the threat Tottenham can pose against any team, Arne Slot put a strong Liverpool team out in North London.

There were still one or two notable absentees for Slot, though, with Dominik Szoboszlai again not well enough for a place in the Liverpool squad.

And according to journalist James Pearce, the Reds picked up another fitness problem in the lead up to the tie.

Tyler Morton picks up ankle injury

It was not exactly a big surprise to see Slot go strong against Spurs on Wednesday.

Regardless of the fact that it was a big game in itself, Liverpool also had the relative cushion of an FA Cup game at Anfield against Accrington Stanley on Saturday.

With Slot likely to rest key players for that game, he was able to put most of his big hitters on the pitch against Spurs.

One player who will have had his eye on that game against Accrington meanwhile, would have been Tyler Morton.

But according to Pearce’s pre-match update, Morton has picked up a knock, meaning he did not travel to the capital with his teammates.

“Dominik Szoboszlai ruled out once again due to illness,” the reporter said on X. “Tyler Morton also unavailable tonight after rolling his ankle.”

Morton set to miss Accrington chance

Morton’s absence was never going to be a huge miss for Liverpool on Wednesday.

Although both of the 22-year-old’s starts this season have come in the Carabao Cup, he was always going to make way at Spurs.

Nevertheless, Morton will now be desperately hoping he can make it back in time for the weekend clash with Accrington.

With such a gap between the two teams, the Liverpool academy graduate would have been one of those set to get a run out in the FA Cup.

It remains to be seen just how serious Morton’s issue is, but there is not a lot of time for him to make his recovery before Saturday.
