Liverpool put their weekend defeat to Nottingham Forest behind them with a win over AC Milan on Tuesday.

The Reds were in dire need of a victory having succumbed to a shock defeat against Forest on Saturday.

The loss was Arne Slot’s first in charge of Liverpool and had the potential to derail what has been a really positive start from the Dutchman.

However, there was relief in the fact that Liverpool had the chance to put things right almost immediately. That the opportunity came against the backdrop of San Siro was a little daunting, though.

But in the end, Liverpool made light work of Milan. The Reds came from behind to beat the Italians 3-1, and Slot was in jubilant mood after the game.

Arne Slot reveals Liverpool message

Slot was not happy with Liverpool’s performance at Anfield on Saturday and he really had no reason to be.

After beating Man United so convincingly in the matchday prior to the Forest loss, much, much better had been expected of the Reds.

The worry that they had taken a negative turn continued in Milan after Christian Pulisic fired the home team ahead after just three minutes.

But in the image of their manager, Liverpool did not panic. They controlled the ball and duly dispatched three unanswered goals.

It was a nice contrast to the Forest game, where the Reds simply could not prise the away team apart.

And speaking to Amazon Prime Sport after the match, Slot admitted that he had given his players a message about the Forest game after the final whistle in Milan.

“I think we showed how good we can play on the ball and that’s also what I said after the game,” said the 46-year-old.

“If you can play so good, it’s almost, disgrace is too much, but it’s unbelievable that you can lose against Forest at home if you can play this well today.”

Liverpool show their good side

Liverpool fans would certainly have been fearing the worst after Pulisic scored so early into Tuesday’s game.

However, once the Reds took hold of the game, they always really looked like winning it.

Dominik Szoboszlai was excellent in midfield, while Cody Gakpo put in a star turn on the left, too. Wherever you turned, there were good performances.

Of course, that is the nature of football in many ways. You cannot be completely at it every single time, no matter how much you train for it.

What is clear, though, is that when this Liverpool team are at their best, they are very, very good indeed. If we see that good side much more often than the bad one this season, we’re in for a good ride.
