Arne Slot’s side could be in for a summer of change, as the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold look set to leave the club.
With just months left on his deal, Liverpool’s chances of keeping Alexander-Arnold seem all but over as the summer window approaches.
Real Madrid are chasing Alexander-Arnold and look set to secure the right-back’s signature on a free transfer this summer.
That is according to Sky Sports in Switzerland, who claim the 26-year-old has already agreed a five-year deal with Los Blancos ahead of next season.
So with Alexander-Arnold seemingly set on life in Spain, it may then come as a surprise to hear that the defender previously claimed he had never even thought about moving to Europe.
Trent Alexander-Arnold said he had no plans to leave Liverpool
Despite fans calling for a new Alexander-Arnold contract, Liverpool have failed to agree terms with the Merseyside graduate.
With no new deal struck, the right-back’s future now seems to be set on Spanish soil, despite him previously ruling out a move to Europe back in 2020.
When asked about the thought of moving to Spain or Germany, Alexander-Arnold told GQ:
“It's not something I've ever really thought about. I've always loved Liverpool. I've always supported them.
“I've always played for them. So, I've never had that reason to think about it. Yeah, still now, I wouldn't sit there in my room and daydream about playing somewhere else.
“Right now, I'm a Liverpool player. I love the club more than anything. I love everything about it. I love the fans, the people. I love the city. So, no, why would I think about that?”
Liverpool lining up Alexander-Arnold replacements
FSG seem resigned to the fact that they will be losing Alexander-Arnold this summer, with Liverpool already targeting right-back replacements.
Feyenoord’s Givairo Read is on Slot’s radar as the Dutch boss looks to raid his former team, meanwhile, Jeremie Frimpong is also a target.
Player | Games | Goals | Assists | Minutes |
Trent Alexander-Arnold | 39 | 3 | 7 | 2869 |
Jeremie Frimpong | 40 | 4 | 11 | 2838 |
Slot has been in contact with Frimpong and the Bayer Leverkusen man seems like the most realistic option at right-back, with a £33m move being touted.
The Reds missed Alexander-Arnold’s impact dearly in the Carabao Cup, so they will need to get their transfer strategy right if the 26-year-old departs for Madrid.
