We spoke to Ashley Rogers from The Wednesday Week podcast to get his take on the Owls ahead of the Hornets' trip to Hillsborough on Saturday (November 2, 3pm KO).

How were the emotions after the end of last season?

Relief. After the start of the season, we had to end it like we did and there was relief and excitement for the season to come.

How would you assess how things have gone so far in 2024/25?

The season got off to a great start with a thumping home win against Plymouth, but then we struggled.

To be 13th after 12 games is a great start.

What is the target for the rest of the campaign?

I said that this season I would happily finish between 10th and 14th.

A season of building, and not having to be panicking at the end with the threat of relegation.

How popular is Danny Röhl with the fans?

I can’t remember a time that the fans have universally loved a manager as much as they do Danny.

Obviously, it helps that he saved the club from a very real relegation threat last season, but it's not just that as he has a connection with the fans as well.

How happy were you with the club’s transfer window?

The biggest bit of business we did was to tie Danny down to a new deal.

With regards to players coming in, we needed to upgrade from last season and the loan sighning of Shea Charles has been what we’ve needed.

The fans wanted us to sign Iké Ugbo on a permanent after he had a great loan spell last season, and we did that as well.

Any players in particular we should watch out for?

The aforementioned Shea Charles has really transformed our midfield, and has fitted into his role at the side of Barry Bannan with ease.

Was the Carabao Cup run enjoyable or a distraction?

It’s taken us to both the east coast and west coast in the previous rounds, and for me it’s a distraction as the main aim for the season is building on the last and getting as high in the league as possible.

But a nice away day at a Premier League club is a nice distraction.

What do you think the score will be?

Our home form has been good this season with a great win against West Brom, so I am confident and will go for a 2-0 Sheffield Wednesday win.
