Bolton Wanderers host Charlton Athletic on Tuesday night with both sides looking to close the gap to the play-off places.

Bolton Wanderers haven’t had the season they’d have wanted so far. BWFC boss Ian Evatt is under immense pressure from the fan base with Wanderers now 16 points away from the automatic promotion places.

Evatt’s side are without a win in their last two league games. They dropped points at home to 23rd-place Cambridge United last time out.

After losing in the play-offs last season, much more was expected from the Trotters, who are currently three points adrift of 6th place.

Charlton Athletic are in a similar spot to Bolton Wanderers themselves. The Addicks find themselves in 12th in the League One table and way off the pace of their rivals in the race for the play-offs.

Nathan Jones’ side had a good start to the year and were settled in the top six but fell off in October and November. A run of three straight wins in the league dragged them back towards the top six, but they remain a way off.

Last time out, they lost 4-2 away to Rotherham United who have had a poor season so fat themselves

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

Charlie Hodgson

“A must-win game for both sides here if they wish to keep up with the playoff picture. Bolton Wanderers need a win and Ian Evatt does even more, he could lose his job with another poor result.

Charlton Athletic had been in good form before the weekend’s defeat. With Bolton’s poor recent form, Nathan Jones will back his side to get a result away from home.

“I see this one be an entertaining draw. Both sides have an eye for goal and while Charlton are defensively strong I think BWFC will break through as the home side.”

Prediction: Bolton Wanderers 2-2 Charlton Athletic

Who is the manager of Blackpool?

James Ray

“This season is at risk of becoming a write-off for Bolton Wanderers. They’re three points off the play-offs and having plenty of time to solidify a spot in the top six – as would be expected at the very least – but the club feels in such a bad place at the minute.

“There’s no indication of plans for change, but the mood is incredibly sour and BWFC fans are growing more and more critical of Ian Evatt with every passing week it seems. Charlton Athletic must prey on that, though they’ve been disappointing themselves this season.

“After building up a bit of steam, that loss to Rotherham United really stunts the Addicks in the bid to rise up the table.

“That might impact them here, but I think I lean towards a pretty drab and uninspiring draw.”

Prediction: Bolton Wanderers 1-1 Charlton Athletic
