Charlton Athletic ace sets himself goal target for the rest of the season

Charlton Athletic’s Luke Berry has said he is aiming to score ‘double figures’ this season.

Charlton Athletic swooped to land the attacking midfielder this past summer following his exit from Luton Town.

Berry, 32, scored twice against Barnsley on Tuesday night as the Addicks drew 2-2 at Oakwell and he now has four goals on the board.

When asked how many he is aiming to bag altogether, he said, as per the official club website: “I normally aim for double figures. If I can get 10, I’m greedy, so I’ll go for 15! It’ll end up being constant.”

He added: “I always like to pick up goals. That’s my fourth of the season and I need to keep ticking them off. I like sniffing off TC [Tyreece Campbell], Miles [Leaburn] and Godders [Matty Godden], finding it where it dropped and thankfully two of them did.

“I always want to be starting. Hopefully it will give the manager [Nathan Jones] something to think about. The main thing is trying to help the team get results.”

Charlton Athletic man eyes double figures

Berry hasn’t been a regular starter for Charlton Athletic so far in this campaign.

The Cambridge-born man has also injected some valuable experience into Nathan Jones’ squad.

His two goals against Barnsley will likely throw him into contention to get the nod in their upcoming fixtures.

Prior to his switch to The Valley, Berry spent seven years at Luton Town and helped them rise from League Two to the Premier League during his time at Kenilworth Road.

Berry played 184 games for the Hatters and scored 26 goals.

He has also played for Cambridge United and Barnsley in the past.

What now?

Charlton Athletic are back in action this weekend with a home game against Wrexham.

The Addicks are sat in 11th place in the table after the first 12 matches and have 18 points on the board.

They are only a point off the play-offs.
