Morecambe want to sign goalkeeper Harry Burgoyne following his exit from Shrewsbury Town, according to reporter Alan Nixon on his Patreon.

Morecambe are interested in landing the stopper as they prepare for the upcoming League Two season. They have brought back former Plymouth Argyle and Bradford City boss Derek Adams for a third spell and he is in the hunt for some signings this summer to beef up his squad.

Burgoyne, 27, has cut ties with Shrewsbury Town this summer following the end of his contract along with the likes of Tom Flanagan, Tunmise Sobowale, Elliott Bennett, Tom Bayliss, Rayhaan Tulloch, Aiden O’Brien and Ryan Bowman. He is a now free agent and will be weighing up his next move in the game.

As per journalist Nixon on Patreon, the Shrimps are keen to snap him up for nothing. They finished 15th in the table last term and are in need of some new faces.

Who is this?

Morecambe want free agent after Shrewsbury Town exit

Morecambe could see Burgoyne as someone to compete for their number one shirt.

He joined Shrewsbury Town back in 2020 and has been on the books of the League One side for the last four years.

However, he made only 35 appearances for them in all competitions and was mainly used as back-up behind Marko Marosi.

The Shropshire-born man started his career at Wolves and rose up through the academy ranks of the Midlands outfit.

He went on to play eight games for their first-team and also had various loan spells away at Lowestoft Town, Corby Town, AFC Telford United, Barnet, Plymouth Argyle and Falkirk to get experience under his belt.

Burgoyne then left Molineux permanently and was snapped up by the Shrews.

What next for Morecambe?

Morecambe have a lot of work to do on the transfer front but are in safe hands under Adams.

He is an experienced manager in the Football League and will be looking to use his extensive contacts to bring in reinforcements.

Burgoyne would be a shrewd addition by the Shrimps and needs to join a team where he is guaranteed regular minutes.
