Nottingham Forest’s Manni Norkett is ‘unlikely’ to play for loan side Cheltenham Town again, as detailed in a report by GloucestershireLive.

Cheltenham Town swooped to sign the attacker in the summer to bolster their ranks. His deal with the League Two side expires in January.

Norkett, 20, was given the green light to head out the exit door by Nottingham Forest in the last window to get some experience under his belt in the Football League. He has since made five appearances for the Robins in all competitions so far this season and has chipped in with a single goal.

In this latest update regarding his situation with Michael Flynn’s side, GloucestershireLive report that he has sustained an ankle injury that will rule him out of action until the new year. Therefore, he is likely to have played his last match in Gloucestershire as he prepares to return to The City Ground.

Cheltenham Town injury

Cheltenham Town brought in Norkett on a temporary basis to add more competition to their options up top.

He hasn’t quite managed to make the impact he would have wanted to with the Robins and going back to Nottingham Forest probably suits all parties involved.

The Reds will have a big decision to make on what to do next with him this winter.

Norkett was on the books at Manchester United from 2018 to 2021 and represented the Red Devils at youth levels.

He never made a senior appearance for the Premier League giants though and was loaned out to non-league side Gainsborough Trinity to boost his development.

The Nottingham-born man was snapped up by Nottingham Forest in 2023 and he has since played for their Under-21’s side.

Norkett is yet to feature for the Reds’ senior team and they will be weighing up his options ahead of next month.

What now?

The player’s focus will be on getting back to full fitness for the time being.

He will then need game time and would benefit from another loan spell away.

As for Cheltenham Town, they are sat in 15th place in the fourth tier table. They were relegated from League One last term along with Fleetwood Town, Carlisle United and Port Vale.

The Robins drew 2-2 away at Doncaster Rovers in their last league outing and are back in action this weekend with a home clash against Morecambe. Their upcoming opponents are 23rd.
