Santos, 29, has made 18 appearances in all competitions for the Trotters so far this season, 13 of which have come in the league, and he has chipped in with a single goal.

Evatt has been impressed with him lately and has said, as per a report by The Bolton News: “He is playing out of his skin at the moment. He is back to the Rico of absolute best. He is such a lynchpin for us and I care about that guy more than a lot of people do, we have a seriously strong relationship, and he came through some adversity – we have as a club – and it’s great to see him out the other side, performing like that, and showing everyone what a good player he can be.”

Bolton Wanderers have a big decision to make regarding Santos’ long-term future.

His contract at the ToughSheet Community Stadium expires in June next year and he is due to become a free agent as things stand.

Santos has been on the books of the Trotters since 2020 and has since made 189 appearances for them altogether, finding the net on five occasions.

He helped them gain promotion from League Two in his first year and adapted well to the step up a division.

The defender was part of their side who reached the play-off final last term. However, they were beaten at Wembley by Oxford United.

Prior to his move to Bolton Wanderers, Santos caught the eye playing for Barnet. He has also been on the books at Peterborough United in the past.

What now?

Evatt’s side are in FA Cup first round action this weekend with an away trip to League Two side Walsall.

They then face Stockport County at Edgeley Park on Saturday 9th November.
