AS Monaco's Lamine Camara retains prestigious award

Lamine Camara (20) has retained his title as Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) Young Player of the Year. The AS Monaco midfielder, who also won the award back in 2023, was announced as the winner of this year’s edition on Monday.
Camara has had a strong year, first playing a significant role in FC Metz’s attempts to retain their Ligue 1 status. Ultimately, however, Les Grenats were relegated to the second tier. His performances nonetheless caught the eye of Monaco, who spent €15m to acquire his services.
Camara has slotted straight in at the Principality club, forming a good partnership with club captain Denis Zakaria in the Monaco midfield. He has thus far made 18 appearances for Les Monégasques, including six in the UEFA Champions League, scoring twice and registering two assists.
Those performances, firstly with Metz and now with Monaco have seen him once again crowned Africa’s best young player. He won the award ahead of the likes of Oumar Diakité and Karim Konaté.
