Liverpool are all set to face Crystal Palace on Saturday as they look to extend their lead at the top of the table.

Sitting pretty in first place heading into the weekend’s fixtures, the Reds have an early chance to put pressure on their potential title rivals.

That won’t be an easy task away at Selhurst Park. As Liverpool found out at Anfield in April, Palace can be a very tricky nut to crack.

Even though the Eagles are without a win and occupy 18th place in the Premier League, Liverpool will be wary of a repeat of that surprise 1-0 loss.

The man who masterminded Palace’s win that day was Austrian boss Oliver Glasner.

But looking ahead to the game against the Reds, Glasner has suggested that he’s spotted something different about the Liverpool squad he and his players will face on Saturday.

Oliver Glasner hails ‘hungry’ Liverpool

Glasner did a superb job after taking over from Roy Hodgson at Palace in February.

The 50-year-old led his team to six wins in their final seven games of the season, which took them to a 10-place finish.

After a good summer of signing former Liverpool target Daichi Kamada as well as securing a number of other, attractive looking deals, the expectation had been that Glasner and Palace would push on this term.

So, far that has not happened and the Eagles are without a win in their first six games of the campaign.

For Liverpool, it has been a different story. The Reds have won five out of six in the Premier League under Arne Slot and speaking via BBC Sport on Friday, Glasner hailed the ‘hunger and ambition’ he has seen from the Reds so far.

“Tomorrow [Saturday], we will need a big heart,” said the Palace manager. “They have fantastic players and a new manager doing a fantastic job.

“Their players look hungry and ambitious but we want to play forward and we want to score because if we don't do that, we don't win.”

Premier League rivals are not worried by Liverpool

Slot has earned praise from plenty of his peers in the Premier League during the early part of his reign at Anfield.

And why not, the Dutchman has his team in brilliant form across all three competitions so far.

Nevertheless, reports emerged on Friday that Liverpool’s Premier League rivals are not worried by their start to the season.

It has been claimed that other teams in the division believe that the Reds have benefitted from a kind fixture list as well as a lack of injuries so far.

While both things may be true, that should be motivation enough for Liverpool’s players to show just how hungry they really and to prove that they are serious title contenders.
