Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future has been the talk of the town in recent months as his current Liverpool deal is set to expire at the end of the season.

The England international has been fantastic since Arne Slot’s arrival and has also forced his way into the England set-up after Euro 2024 as interim manager Lee Carsley has opted to put faith in him.

Alexander-Arnold is in sublime form for club and country but Liverpool can continue to sweat over his future as they run the risk of losing one of their best players on a free transfer.

Real Madrid are eager to sign Alexander-Arnold in 2025 as they look to add another superstar to their star-studded squad.

Amid speculation that the boyhood Scouser could be on his way to the Spanish capital, Darren Bent has shared what he’s heard from a ‘big journalist’ close to the situation.

Real Madrid already have Dani Carvajal at the club, who is a bonafide legend of the game who has won every trophy there is to win.

Bent feels Real Madrid are yet to make contact with Alexander-Arnold because his potential arrival could upset the Los Blancos dressing room.

"Listen, the reports I heard they (Real Madrid) haven't reached out to him at all. A big journalist told me that,” said Bent on talkSPORT.

“What I have heard is that Real Madrid are quite big on their dressing room. And Dani Carvajal, what is he? 32?

“So bringing someone into the dressing room now would almost upset the dressing room because he's such a big player, he has won everything for them.”

However, the former Tottenham Hotspur striker feels the La Liga giants could re-evaluate the situation if and when Carvajal decides to leave the club, with Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi also mentioned as a potential target.

Bent continued: “So maybe in a year's time, they might go, he might go, do you know what?

“Enough's enough, I am going and then they will bring one in, but the timing's off. Hakimi is the next one coming up."

Liverpool simply can’t afford to lose Alexander-Arnold

The 25-year-old is one of the biggest matchwinners in world football and has won every major trophy at the club, while he is also in line to take the captain’s armband in the future.

Losing a player of his calibre – more so on a free transfer – would come as a hammer blow to Slot’s project as he aims to oversee a new era at the club after succeeding Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool are in a precarious position as the likes of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are also yet to renew their contracts, so the Reds’ top brass have their work cut out for them in the coming months as they look to make the right decision for everyone involved.
