Liverpool maintained their winning run with a 1-0 victory against Crystal Palace, a result made even better with third-choice goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros making his debut from the bench.

The Czech Republic international was forced on at Selhurst Park after Alisson Becker suffered yet another injury, with usual backup Caoimhin Kelleher not in the matchday squad due to illness.

Despite the pressure from the Eagles and the size of the occasion for Jaros, the 23-year-old did a solid job on his first-ever appearance for the Reds, with the young goalkeeper able to see out the clean sheet for Liverpool.

And Arne Slot has now shared his honest opinion on how Jaros performed on his Liverpool debut.

Slot impressed with Jaros after Liverpool debut vs Crystal Palace

Speaking to the press at full-time, Slot hailed the Liverpool goalkeeper after his surprise debut against Palace, with the Dutch coach saying it was ‘very pleasing’ to see Jaros step up to the occasion given how unpredictable it was.

Slot said: “The last time Alisson was injured I would have played Jaros, but I played Caoimhin [Kelleher]. So Caoimhin is the No.2 and did really well. It's very pleasing to see that even our third goalkeeper, because Caoimh was sick yesterday and today of course, can have an impact on our results.”

With Jaros himself saying how stressed he was about having to come on for Liverpool, the Czech Republic youngster more than impressed in what was his debut for Reds, a moment the 23-year-old will never forget.

And with Kelleher’s future up in the air, Jaros could prove to be Liverpool’s next backup option for Alisson if the goalkeeper can get even more first-team opportunities, a door that could now be open after yesterday’s result.

Jaros debut gives Liverpool a lot to think about heading into 2025

Jaros is a goalkeeper who has shown a lot of promise at Liverpool over the years, with loan spells in England, the Republic of Ireland and Austria all leading up to Saturday’s debut against Palace.

And heading into 2025, the young goalkeeper has given Liverpool a lot to think about with Jaros showing that he can do a job at a Premier League level under Slot, with the Czech talent looking like a natural between the sticks.

Indeed, Kelleher leaving in January could open the door for Jaros to become Liverpool’s backup keeper for 2025, with a loan spell to a top club next summer also a possibility with the arrival of Giorgi Mamardashvili.
