Liverpool endured a tough Premier League match this weekend against Crystal Palace, with the Reds losing Alexis Mac Allister to injury.

The Argentine international was forced off at half-time at Selhurst Park with Arne Slot confirming at the match that Mac Allister was complaining about a groin issue, with Dominik Szoboszlai replacing the midfielder at the break.

With Mac Allister establishing himself as one of Slot’s most important players in his Liverpool system, the former Brighton & Hove Albion star being out injured could be a huge blow for the Reds given the fixtures coming up after the international break.

And Argentina have already decided what they plan to do with Mac Allister after his latest injury issue.

Mac Allister to still travel to Argentina for international duty

According to journalist Gaston Edul, Argentina have no plans to drop Mac Allister from their squad for this month’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers, a decision that could make Liverpool fans and Slot sweat in the coming weeks.

Edul posted about Argentina’s decision on Mac Allister: “Alexis Mac Allister will not be deregistered today. He will travel to join the Argentine National Team and they will evaluate his condition to play.”

Although Argentina have the depth to give Mac Allister the rest needed to fully recover from this injury, the decision to still call-up the Liverpool midfielder is one that is likely to go down poorly on Merseyside.

Indeed, Mac Allister is one of Slot’s most important players and a senior figure in the squad, and the Anfield star aggravating his injury whilst out on Argentina duty could lead to some big consequences in the coming weeks.

Liverpool need to hope Mac Allister can survive the international break

Argentina sticking with their decision to select Mac Allister for the international break is one that is likely to cause some tension at Liverpool given how important the midfielder is for the Reds.

And with all the travel, training and the actual games on the horizon, Liverpool will be hopeful that Mac Allister can survive the international break, with Chelsea next up in the Premier League for Slot’s side.

Mac Allister has excelled this season in a double pivot alongside Ryan Gravenberch, and Liverpool will have problems if the Argentine international is injured even more this international break.
