'Really underwhelming' – Huddersfield Town vs Charlton Athletic prediction: The72
Today at 03:21 AM
Charlton Athletic travel to the John Smith’s Stadium to face a Huddersfield Town side unbeaten in six League One matches at home.
Charlton Athletic are struggling for form, winless in their last four league games and 13th in the table.
Three draws during that run have left Nathan Jones’ side six points clear of the relegation zone but seven adrift of the play-off places. Their last league victory came on October 5th, a 1-0 win over Birmingham City.
Jones will be on the touchline despite his red card in last week’s EFL Trophy victory over Bromley. The Welshman avoided further sanctions for kicking the ball while it was in play, as any potential ban would only have applied to that competition.
Huddersfield Town, who sit 8th in the table, fought back twice to secure a 2-2 draw at Crawley Town before the international break.
However, they had suffered a shock 1-0 FA Cup defeat to non-league Tamworth just prior to that league result. Michael Duff will be determined to see his side return to winning ways with promotion expected from this squad.
Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…
Charlie Hodgson
“This will be a tough game for Charlton Athletic. Given their current form, I think they are going to struggle to get a result against a good Huddersfield Town side.
“Huddersfield are in fine form at the minute and it Is hard to see them dropping many points right now. They have a good record at home as well so they will be expecting all three points.
“In my opinion, this will be a home win but you can’t rule out a result for Charlton, you just never know what Charlton side will turn up on the day.”
Prediction: Huddersfield Town 2-1 Charlton Athletic
James Ray
“Huddersfield Town are a bit hot and cold this season. They’re on a five-game unbeaten streak and have looked really good at times this season, but it seems they’re only so far away from another skid every time they gain some momentum.
“However, I do think their league position is a little misleading. The League One table is very tightly-packed and with a few more wins, they’re right back amongst it towards the top.
“The same can’t quite be said for Charlton Athletic. So much more was expected of them in their first season under Nathan Jones but they’ve been really underwhelming.
“With the Addicks’ poor form and bad away record in mind, I’m going for a Huddersfield win.”
Prediction: Huddersfield Town 2-0 Charlton Athletic
