Diogo Jota was the hero for Liverpool against Nottingham Forest as the striker scored the equalising goal with his first touch of the ball.
The £45m attacker was brought on alongside Kostas Tsimikas as the pair combined from a corner to put Liverpool back in the game against Forest, with Jota needing just 22 seconds from coming on to score from a set-piece.
With Steven McManaman in awe by Arne Slot’s decision to bring on the pair, Jota shared how he spoke to Tsimikas before coming on about how he wants the Greek international to assist him once again against Forest.
And Shaun Wright-Phillips has now said what impresses him most about Jota after his heroics on Tuesday night.
Jota praised for ability to win headers after ‘unbelievable’ Liverpool move
Speaking on Premier League Productions, the former Manchester City and Chelsea star lauded Jota for his ability to win headers despite his small frame when compared to Premier League defenders, with the striker having an uncanny knack to get on the end of crosses.
With Jota winning praise from Jamie Carragher for his header against Forest, the Portuguese international once again showed why he could Liverpool’s answer to their no. 9 problems this season, provided that the attacker can remain fit.
And Wright-Phillips was again impressed with what he saw from Jota inside the penalty area, with the pundit praising the 28-year-old attacker for his latest Liverpool goal and the way he was able to beat Forest’s towering defenders to Tsimikas’ corner.
Wright-Phillips said: “That what you want as a sub, to come on and score with your first touch. He always amazes me when he’s in that box, the amount of headers he wins and the opportunities he gets. The ball in is unbelievable, right in the area he needs to be, and the header is a nice glancing header into the far corner.”
What else has been said about Jota’s performance vs Forest?
Jota changed the game for Liverpool after being brought on by Slot, with the former Wolves man giving the Reds the burst of energy they needed in the attack to really go at Forest and to cause the City Ground side some problems.
And the Portuguese international was rightfully praised for his performance, with Clinton Morrison lauding Jota as ‘outstanding’ having ran Forest’s defence ragged all night and giving Liverpool the outlet needed to create some dangerous chances.
Indeed, Jota brought Liverpool to life after coming off the bench last night, and the no. 20 knows his performance was key to the Reds coming away from the City Ground with what could be a crucial point in the title race.
