Insistence Liverpool 'won't let player leave' as club 'move up gear' with new offer – Reds standing firm
Today at 05:36 AM
On January 2nd, AS reported Liverpool have rejected the €15m offer from Real Madrid for Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The right-back’s deal expires in the summer and earlier claims have stated he isn’t in favour of signing an extension.
Real Madrid are going through a crisis in the defence and are looking to improve it in the winter market. The Liverpool star is on the frontpage of today’s AS, with ‘lateral priority’ written in bold.
Carlo Ancelotti currently has Lucas Vázquez as the only recognised right-back and his side have decided to sign a new fullback in January.
Alexander-Arnold is the priority target for Los Blancos and the idea to sign him without money ‘seems utopian’.
Now, it’s stated the Champions League winners will ‘move up a gear’, likely by raising their offer from €15m, to convince Arne Slot’s side.
The report makes no mention of the figures but states they won’t spend a lot, and despite this, the ‘feeling is Liverpool won’t let him leave’ in this window.
Earlier this month, Real Madrid were clear that if they can’t sign the 26-year-old, they will not look for another player. That’s no longer the case now and AS say the ‘wing had changed’.
The La Liga side will try to sign a right-back, who could have a significant role until the end of this season. There are several options on the table and a decision would have to be made, considering Liverpool are firm with their decision on Alexander-Arnold.
