Mascot who asked Virgil van Dijk to sign for Tottenham yesterday shares how Liverpool captain replied

Liverpool have a lot of work to do in the second leg as they were beaten 1-0 by Tottenham Hotspur in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semifinal.
The Reds have now drawn successive games across all competitions and weren’t anywhere close to their best away from home against a Tottenham side that was severely depleted due to injuries.
The game had some intriguing talking points like Lucas Bergvall scoring a late goal just moments after committing a potentially second yellow card-worthy foul on Kostas Tsimikas.
However, one of the most lighthearted moments occurred moments before kickoff when a Tottenham mascot asked Virgil van Dijk to sign for Ange Postecoglou’s side.
And now, the mascot has shared how the Liverpool captain responded to his hilarious plea.
Mascot says Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk wasn’t impressed with his claim
Tottenham were missing Cuti Romero and Micky van de Ven as the pair continue to recover from their respective injuries.
Amid an ongoing defensive crisis, Postecoglou handed starts to Radu Dragusin and Archie Gray, with the 18-year-old tasked with the difficult challenge of playing at the heart of the backline against Liverpool.
Ahead of kick-off, a mascot, who was well aware of Tottenham’s defensive issues, asked Van Dijk to sign for the club, claiming Spurs don’t have any good defenders at the club currently.
And now, the young boy has clarified what the Liverpool captain told him as he made another hilarious remark on talkSPORT radio.
“I just wanted to apologise for what I said earlier, I’m sorry for my actions because we’ve got Archie Gray and Dragusin!
“I don’t really know [what he said] but he didn’t seem very happy!”
Cheeky little bugger, him!
Liverpool hard done by refereeing decisions vs Tottenham
As we mentioned earlier, the Reds were on the wrong end of a poor decision from the referee involving Bergvall.
The young Swede committed a rash challenge on Tsimikas that could have been deemed worthy of a second yellow card, but that wasn’t to be the case as he scored the winner moments later.
Van Dijk claims Bergvall should have been sent off for his challenge, describing it as an easy decision to make for the referee.
Additionally, Luis Garcia feels Liverpool should have had a penalty vs Tottenham as Dejan Kulusevski kicked Curtis Jones inside the box late in the game.
The Reds were hard done by in the first leg but have the chance to make amends later this month as they prepare to go all guns blazing in the second leg.
