3 available managers Shrewsbury Town must target after Paul Hurst decision

Shrewsbury Town are on the lookout for a new boss after sacking Paul Hurst, who had been in charge of the club for nine months.
Shrewsbury Town brought former boss Paul Hurst back to the club last January, marking his second stint in charge of the club.
He previously enjoyed a highly successful stay from 2016 to 2018, taking them as high as the League One play-offs before a move to Ipswich Town. However, his nine months back at the club have been far from as successful and with two wins in 14 third-tier games, the decision to sack him has been made.
Salop move Hurst and assistant Chris Doig on with the club sat 23rd in the table. The search for a new boss is underway, with this appointment sure to be a highly important one.
With that said, here are three available managers Shrewsbury Town should target…
Gareth Ainsworth
Ainsworth is yet to return to the dugout since his QPR exit. He’s likely waiting for the right club on his comeback, but it would be remiss of Shrewsbury Town not to ask the question.
The 51-year-old fought against the odds to find big success with Wycombe Wanderers, taking them up to the Championship with a team spirit and togetherness rarely equalled.
That could be just what the Shrews need in their bid to turn their fortunes around.
Dino Maamria
Someone well-versed with a relegation firefight might not go amiss and if that’s the profile Shrewsbury Town want to target, Dino Maamria is someone they should be considering a move for.
With their levels so low at the moment, they need someone like Maamria who can focus on getting some fight out of this struggling squad. Bringing someone in to get them playing eye-catching, high risk high reward football would not be sensible.
Maamria performed well with Burton Albion before his exit and he’s capable of delivering what Shrewsbury need.
Pete Wild
Wild is out of the game after his exit from Barrow in the summer and he’s capable of leading a League One side. Again, he’s got experience of battling in tough circumstances from his time at Oldham Athletic and he has found success on small budgets with Halifax Town and Barrow.
It’s perhaps a little surprising that the 40-year-old hasn’t returned to the dugout yet given some of the jobs that have popped up, but perhaps he’s waiting for the right chance to arise.
The Shrewsbury Town vacancy could be just that, and he’s definitely a contender to consider.
