Wrexham are likely to be in the market for new signings in January, and it seems striker could be an area of focus once again.
Wrexham are challenging for promotion from League One and they won’t be resting on their laurels when it comes to the January transfer window.
The Red Dragons have put faith in the group that has got them to this point but in the bid to constantly strengthen, winter signings are inevitable. And, the striker situation means that is reportedly set to be an area they look to strengthen.
Jack Marriott is out long-term and while Jon Dadi Bodvarsson has come in as a new option, the goals have slowed. Paul Mullin has struggled for goalscoring form, as has Ollie Palmer, while Mo Faal opportunities have been limited.
The money is there to be spent on a new striker and with a player boasting Championship experience eyed, here are three players Wrexham should have their eyes on…
Harry Cornick – Bristol City
Cornick could be a great option for Wrexham to consider amid his lack of game time at Bristol City. Perhaps not the most prolific of strikers in the Championship, but that experience could make him a real threat in League One.
The 29-year-old is coming up on 200 appearances in the second-tier and he has 26 goals and 21 assists in that time. He can operate anywhere across the front three to offer something different to the existing strikers too.
It’s hard to see the Robins blocking a winter move considering he hasn’t made a league appearance this season.
Joe Taylor – Luton Town
Taylor was on the brink of a permanent move to Huddersfield Town in the summer but after that fell through, he has found limited chances with Luton Town. That should put him on the Wrexham radar.
His Championship experience is limited but he has proven a handful of the bench in the second-tier and his stunning Lincoln City loan last season shows what he can do in League One.
22-year-old Taylor managed 10 goals and three assists in 19 games for the Imps and could be a feasible loan or permanent signing.
Niall Ennis – Stoke City
Last but not least is Niall Ennis, who was on the Wrexhamradar in the summer transfer window.
His struggle for action at Stoke City has persisted and with the Potters likely to be busy in January themselves, the door could open for Ennis to head for pastures new.
He’s been unable to make an impact in the Championship with both Stoke and Blackburn Rovers but could be better for that experience. Ennis’ previous League One success could make him a great player to consider again at the Racecourse.
