The Blues were relegated from the Championship last season after finishing in the bottom three along with Rotherham United and Huddersfield Town.

They turned to Chris Davies as their new manager over the summer and have adapted well to life in the third tier.

Birmingham City injury latest

Birmingham City have been without left-back Lee Buchanan so far this season. He has been out of action with a calf injury but is working his way back up to full fitness now and could be back after the international break which would be a boost.

He joined the Midlands outfit in 2023 from Werder Bremen. The full-back has also been on the books at Derby County in the past.

The Blues were forced to take off Krystian Bielik during their last game against Northampton Town. Davies explained afterwards why he went off and said, as per a report by BirminghamLive“He’s been injured for quite a while and just cramped up. He couldn’t continue and wanted to come off. Dion came on for the last few minutes and we unfortunately conceded the goal.”

Midfielder Alfie Chang has been in the treatment room with a long-term knee injury. The 22-year-old has recently returned to training and is poised for some game time with the development squad soon.

Davies has told BirminghamLive: “Because he was out for 14 months it was different to a lot of the injuries we talk about, it’s something that takes time. I think he’s done a good block of training now for a month or so, the next step is bigger spaced areas and maybe some exposure to under-21s football. It’s a longer road for Alfie but he’s done very well so far and worked so hard to come back from his injury.”

Winger Emil Hansson hasn’t played since mid-October against Lincoln City. It is hoped that he will be available for selection after the international break.

Attacker Scott Wright, who joined in the last transfer window from Rangers, has missed the last six fixtures for Birmingham City. Like Hansson, they hope to see him back for their trip to Shrewsbury Town on 23rd November.

What now?

Birmingham City will want to return to winning ways when they return.

The Blues have only lost once so far this term in 13 fixtures.
