Abdulai, 22, has made 20 appearances in all competitions so far this season for Swansea City, 17 of which have come in the Championship, and he has chipped in with two goals. His contract with the Welsh outfit expires in the summer of 2026.

In this latest update regarding his situation this month by Witcoop on X, the O’s are snapping him up ahead of League One rivals Mansfield Town. It remains to be seen at this stage whether it is a permanent deal or a loan.

Richie Wellens’ side are sat in 8th position in the table and are three points off the play-offs following their draw with Peterborough United.

The Glasgow-born man has enjoyed plenty of game time so far this term under Luke Williams in the second tier.

He was handed a new deal in November last year and told the Swans’ website at the time: “When I came here, I just wanted to get working and to focus on myself and my football, and now with the new contract, I can just keep doing what I do day to day.

“The opportunity to extend my time here shows that I’m doing something well and that the staff have belief in me. It feels really good.

“Looking forward, I can now set myself longer-term goals at the club with my extension and I can start working towards those with the staff, who have been amazing since I arrived.”

Abdulai played in Celtic’s academy from 2012 to 2019 before heading down the border to England.

The ex-Scotland youth international was signed by Leicester City and spent a year with the Foxes before Swansea City came calling.
