Bolton Wanderers are in Carabao Cup action this evening with an away trip to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal.

Bolton Wanderers head into the game on the back of their 5-2 home win over Reading last time out in League One. Dion Charles scored a hat-trick against the Royals, whilst Josh Sheehan and Kyle Dempsey also got themselves on the scoresheet.

They have already seen off fellow third tier sides Mansfield Town and Shrewsbury Town in the competition so far.

The Trotters will be locking horns with an Arsenal side who finished 2nd in the Premier League last season behind Manchester City.

Bolton Wanderers team news

As per The Bolton News, Bolton Wanderers’ summer signing Jordi Osei-Tutu remains sidelined and will miss the chance to play against his former club.

Boss Ian Evatt has said: “They will all expect to play but from my perspective, we have a squad of players who are trusted. Whoever gets selected, we expect them to go out and execute a good performance.

“As daft as it sounds, I think everyone is in agreement that Crawley on Saturday is more important and we will make sure we have players fit, available and energetic for both games.”

Starting XI

Southwood; Cogley, Forino, Santos, Johnston, Williams; Arfield, Thomason, Sheehan; Charles, McAtee

Bolton Wanderers have played Luke Southwood in their cup ties so far this season so he is likely to step in for Nathan Baxter again.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Chris Forino come in for Eoin Toal to freshen up the backline alongside Ricardo Santos and George Johnston, with Josh Dacres-Cogley and Randell Williams either side in the wing-back positions.

In the middle of the park, the fact Evatt has hinted at some changes means Scott Arfield could come in to play with George Thomason and Josh Sheehan in the middle of the park. He would add some experience into the team.

It would be harsh to drop Charles after his three goals against Reading. The Trotters then need to decide between Victor Adeboyejo and John McAtee, with the latter fresher after coming off the bench last Saturday.
